Handmade Rag Dolls Start With A Child

My daughter, Teaonna, was 12 years old when she began making rag dolls. Her interest in making and creating started at the tender age of 3 years old. At 8 years old, she made her first 8-inch bean filled doll with her aunt Amber. A year later, she was making the popular Rainbow Loom bracelets and charms which were a big hit at her elementary school followed by her homemade flubber which kids enjoyed for hours. By 10 years old, she upgraded her 8-inch doll to 18 inches, had two different ethnic dolls, and with her dads help, started a small business. As time passed, she and I (mom) sold many dolls to family and friends. We as a family designed different doll clothes, dolls, marketing ideas and more.

At 12 years old, she still enjoyed creating and making her crafts, she created seven different dolls, several types of clothing, and thanks to the mentorship of the LiBush owners, her African dolls can now be found at the LiBush International Connection African store in beautiful Old Sacramento.

Her small business has grown to sell a variety of rag dolls which includes the International Collection. We recently added a new line of stuffed dolls, “stuffed animals”. Our love of crafting continues to inspire and motivate us to create and bring to life our creation.

She enjoys helping others whenever she can, and because her grandmother is a breast cancer survivor, she donated a percentage of the proceeds to the Prostate and Breast Cancer Foundation, unfortunately, the foundation is now permanently closed, but we continue to strive to donate to our favorite charities to help those who need it most.

Today, she is in her 3rd year of college at California State University Long Beach and because she is away at college, she has temporarily stepped away from the spotlight. However, to keep the dream alive for her return, I continue on her behalf to keep the torch lit and help inspire other crafters alike that dreams do come true.
